The scenery of Matsushima from the observation deck in Kamiamakusa is a superb view you cannot see anywhere else. You can enjoy differing views from two observation decks in the popular spots of Mt. Sengan and Mt. Takabuto. You will never forget that scenery which changes depending on the time - morning, evening and night - once you have seen it. Incidentally, the sights that appear in the video are all places that are okay to enter. (However, it is really dangerous, so you will have do so at your own responsibility!)
There is a parking lot near the summit of Mt. Sengan. It then takes approximately 10 minutes on foot to reach the summit if you walk along the road from there. Alternatively, it takes approximately 15 minutes along the mountain path lined with strangely shaped rocks. There is a rocky area with a superb view ahead of the rocks as you descend down a little from the arbor. If you stand here, you can feel like Amakusa Shiro! (Please check out the video if you are unsure what this means!) If you have the time, we recommend climbing the mountain path lined with rocks while clambering over those rocks and being surprised at their shapes. You can then take the easy route down alongside the road when you return.
You can also go up to the near the summit of Mt. Takabuto by car. You can then reach the observation deck with an approximately 5-minute walk from there. You can view all the five bridges of Amakusa from the observation deck. A landscape will unfold before you that cannot be captured in a photograph. This area makes for particularly good photographs at night and with the setting sun. If time permits, this is a place you will want to visit many times to see various superb views during the day, at night and with the setting sun.

Yushima is located in the middle of the Ariake Sea between the Amakusa Islands and the Shimabara Peninsula in Nagasaki Prefecture. This small island, about four kilometers in circumference, is also known by the nickname of "Island of Cats." As the name suggests, there are many cats on this island. It is said that there are more cats than residents on the island. (The number of residents is about 230 while the number of cats is about 250 as of December 2024.) Each cat has been given a name and is well looked after.
The historical figure that Kamiamakusa is most proud of is Amakusa Shiro (Masuda Shiro Tokisada). Amakusa was the person who, although a teenager, marshalled the passions of the people to drive the rebel forces in the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion in the 17th century when the Shogunate began cracking down on Christians. The Amakusa Shiro Museum tells of the era when Amakusa Shiro lived, the history of Christianity and nanban (foreign) culture through videos, dioramas, projection mapping and performances. The facility periodically collaborates with universities to hold special exhibitions to reconstruct the situation at that time such as by displaying valuable books and tools. The museum is located within Amakusa Shiro Park. Its unique architectural beauty also makes it worth seeing.
The natural landscapes and tourist attractions, which are the pride of Kamiamakusa and which will greatly exceed (NANAME-UE) your expectations, have been produced from the topography unique to Kamiamakusa consisting of islands of various sizes. It is the many bridges spanning these islands which support that originality! These bridges, which support tourist attractions that will greatly exceed (NANAME-UE) your expectations, link that main throughfare and small islands centered on the Five Bridges of Amakusa which connect the main throughfare.
